About Me
Hello! My name is Laura Skinner, and I’m a graphic designer with a passion for web design, illustration, photography and art in general. In appreciation of my favorite form of graphic design, this portfolio was developed to recreate my love for trading cards. After all, one of my first experiences with design was with the Pokémon trading card game. The curiosity I had for combining art and text is what lead me into graphic design, a discipline that combines aesthetics with legibility.
In 2015, I would graduate from Anderson University with my Bachelors focused on graphic design, and shortly there after working for Anderson Lights of Hope. I was not expecting to remake the branding for not only their organization, but also creating new branding and promotional material for their annual holiday light show! The next year I would move on to work at J. E. S. Restaurant Equipment, researching and analyzing the competition and managing an email campaign with over 20,000 subscribers. Not long after I started working with J. E. S., I returned to education once more. I chose Greenville Technical College in order to broaden both my soft and hard skills; mainly to learn web design, but also to expand my professional network in the wonderful Greenville, South Carolina. I would eventually find my connection in Greenville with Redhype, a local advertising agency. I would continue developing my skills regarding monitoring and creating media for client social media accounts. In winter of 2019, I not only graduated from Greenville Technical College, but also joined the technical publication team for TTI Power Equipment. Over the next three years, I would produce over 200 technical illustrations for their manuals. I would later find work with Delta Power Equipment, reconstructing and redesigning their website from the ground up.
While my skillset is evidently broad, my talent is designing and executing a large project with the big picture in mind. I enjoy having a goal I can prepare for, or a question to research. I’m particularly good at analyzing design and technical material; as an example, I pride myself on not only designing for an email campaign with so many subscribers, but also ensuring our subscriber list was healthy. The best email campaign would mean nothing if it was considered spam!
