Kung Fu + Tai Chi Mockup

Task:

Design a mockup of an existing magazine, Kung Fu + Tai Chi.

Response:

To show our skill with multi-page projects, our class was tasked with redesigning the cover and a few spreads from an existing magazine of our choice. The magazine that caught my attention was the November/December issue of Kung Fu + Tai Chi, since it focused on the tiger style of Kung Fu. The tiger style focuses the user’s external power, but to master the style, users must also hone their internal power as well. To demonstrate this balance, I designed the cover to represent the element of Yin. This carried through the magazine, as Yin is represented by a background of black with a white center, the magazine was designed with white text on a black background. As for the illustrations, I also used Hexels, a program designed for non-square based pixels to help give a mosaic-like look!
